Letter: Stensrud Has Proven Record of Being a Fiscal Hawk

"One of his niches is in picking out waste wherever he sees it, even small programs that his fellow representatives often feel is a waste of time."

To the Editor:

I must address Yvonne Selcer's claims that she is making in her literature regarding being "bipartisan" and willing to "reach across the aisle."

Earlier this summer Yvonne was making her way through our neighborhood dropping off literature and speaking to people. I was in the street with some neighbors when she came over and introduced herself. I introduced myself to her and extended my hand as I told her I was the vice chair of our precinct's Republican caucus. Her hands went up and she backed away as if I was offering her a dirty Kleenex. She said, "well, then you don't want to talk to me." I told her on the contrary that I'd be happy to talk with her. I told her I think it's important that we stay engaged with one another no matter which side you are on. She walked away from us and concluded in a sardonic tone, "Good luck. Kirk is a lovely man." I stood there with my neighbors, speechless.

Ms. Selcer is also trying to play herself off as being "fiscally conservative" and moderate. You need look no further than the records of our Democratic legislators and remember how fiscally irresponsible former representative Ruud was.

Representative Stensrud has a proven record of being a fiscal hawk. One of his niches is in picking out waste wherever he sees it, even small programs that his fellow representatives often feel is a waste of time. Waste is waste and he treats it as such no matter how big or small. He has and will continue to listen to all of his constituents. And if you differ with him on issues I can assure you he has not and will not back away and refuse to engage you. Call him or email him, he will respond.
