Letter to the Editor: State Rep. Candidate Introduces Herself
Yvonne Selcer, a former member of the Hopkins School Board, is running for state representative in District 48A.

To the Editor,
My name is Yvonne Selcer and I am running for state representative in District 48A. Our Minnesota history is populated with people who worked together toward a vision of the quality of life we have enjoyed. It is time to bring that responsible and responsive representation back to our state.
During my eight years on the Hopkins School Board we focused on important issues and goals, with positive results for our students. Minnesotans deserve the same focus from their legislators on the important issues of education, jobs and the economy, and our quality of life. This is not the time for the politics of distraction, which does not create one job, help one family or educate one child.

It is time to bring fiscal responsibility back to the capitol. Last session 2.4 billion dollars were borrowed from our children’s education. The repeal of the homestead tax credit resulted in higher property taxes for many home and small business owners. While I was on the school board, we solved our fiscal difficulties with reformed practices, tough decisions, and vigorous oversight. Our district then earned awards–four state and one national– for excellence in fiscal management and reporting.
As someone who grew up in a small Minnesota town helping out in the family business, as a wife and mother of two children who has lived with her family in 48A for 24 years, as a former business executive, teacher, and as your neighbor, I will work with you for a better Minnesota.

I look forward to listening to you, and ask for your vote on Nov 6.
