Minnetonka Reads: 'The Red Umbrella'

Minnetonka families are invited to join in summer reading fun with "The Red Umbrella" by Christina Diaz Gonzalez.

The Minnetonka Reads community reading initiative, a partnership of the Minnetonka Community Commission and Hennepin County Library, invites Minnetonka families to join in summer reading fun with “The Red Umbrella” by Christina Diaz Gonzalez. This moving fiction book tells the story of a teenage girl’s journey from Cuba to America as part of Operation Pedro Pan. Appropriate for grades 5 and up, families are encouraged to read the story together.

As part of the Minnetonka Reads experience, this year’s Music in the Park series features Salsa del Soul playing Cuban and salsa music Tuesday, June 26, from 7–8:30 p.m. at the amphitheater. An adult-child book discussion is set for Tuesday, July 17, at 1 p.m. at the Ridgedale Library. Visit www.hclib.org after June 1 to register.
