Minnetonka High School's Joey Richards beat outstanding competition in the Class AA singles championship to come out on top. The junior was on his third straight trip to the individual state tennis meet.  Richards faced No. 2 ranked Toby Boyer of Forest Lake in the championship, beating him 7-5, 3-6, 7-5. Richards beat No. 1 ranked Maxwell Olson from Edina on Friday morning, 6-0 and 6-1.  Richards defeated Ryan Meger from Mahtomedi in the first round of state tournament singles action and Zach Ekstein from Eagan in the second round on Thursday. Richards wasn't ranked going into the tournament. The <a href="https://minnetonka.patch.com/groups/sports/p/minnetonka-tennis-plays-today-in-state-semifinals" rel="nofollow">team won second in state</a> on Wednesday.
