St. Paul Man Charged with Felony DWI in Minnetonka

A St. Paul man has been charged with felony drunken driving after police say his blood-alcohol content tested more than twice the legal limit.

Charles Morgan Anderson Jr., 32, is charged with first-degree driving while impaired, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and a $14,000 fine.

Anderson remains in the Hennepin County Jail on a $30,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled May 2 in Hennepin County District Court.

According to the criminal complaint, compiled by Minnetonka Police, an officer saw a car going 70 mph in a 55 mph zone just after 1 a.m. March 24 on Interstate 494. The officer pulled over the car and identified the driver as Anderson.

The officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Anderson’s breath and noted that his eyes were bloodshot, according to the complaint. Anderson told the officer that he had just left a friend’s house, but denied having anything to drink.

Anderson also complained of a “burst hemorrhoid” that was causing him pain and kept him from performing field sobriety tests, the complaint says.

A preliminary breath test showed a blood-alcohol concentration of .155 percent, almost twice the legal limit of .08.

Anderson was taken to the Minnetonka police station, where he submitted to a blood test.

Anderson’s criminal record includes convictions for driving under the influence in 2005 and 2006. He was given a suspended sentence in February for an additional DUI conviction.
