
Barbara Nystuen, age 93 of Northfield, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the Cannon Valley Suites following a brief illness. Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, July 7th at Bethel Lutheran Church in Northfield with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7:00 pm at the Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield and at the Church on Saturday 1 hour prior to Services.
Barbara Carlaw Nystuen was born January 28, 1919 in Northfield, daughter of Oscar and Ada (Carlaw) Benson. She grew up on the Benson farm just east of Northfield, attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Northfield High School.
On March 4, 1942 Barb married Albert Peterson. Albert died in 1943 during his WWII service in Italy. On April 27, 1946 she was united in marriage to Daniel Conrad Nystuen and they made their home in Northfield. Barb worked at the telephone company in Northfield until she and Dan moved to Richfield in 1953. In 1961 they moved back to Northfield with Barb returning to the telephone company. She later worked at St. Olaf College and retired from the Northfield Hospital where she was the receptionist.

Barb enjoyed bowling, gardening, crossword puzzles, and embroidery. She loved to play cards and going out to Waterford on Saturday afternoons to play with the card group and visit with her friends. Barb was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church where she belonged to Circle and spent many hours volunteering in the church office. Her favorite times were spent with her family and friends.
Barbara Nystuen is survived by son Jim Nystuen and wife Viv of Northfield; niece Dell Marie Jensen and husband Marv of Columbia Heights; nephew Rollie Green and companion Sherrie Thibodeau of Northfield; godson Dan Prussing of Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Albert and Dan; sisters Marjorie Green, Ellen Swanson, and Marion Benson.
