UPDATED: Body Found in Burned Vehicle in Rural Rice County

The Rice County Sheriff's Office and Faribault Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire call around 5:20 a.m. Sunday and arrived to find a body inside the vehichle.

The Rice County Sheriff's Office is now reporting that the body found inside a burning van Sunday morning in Cannon City Township was a man's.

A body was found in a burned vehicle Sunday morning at the intersection of 150th St. W. and Acorn Trail in Cannon City Township.

The Rice County Sheriff's Office and Faribault Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire call around 5:20 a.m. and arrived to find a body inside the vehichle.

According to a report from the Rice County Sheriff's Office, the age and race of the victim is unknown. The body has been sent to the Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy and identification.

There are currently no suspects and there's no indication if authorities suspect foul play. The case remains under investigation by the sheriff's office and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal's Office.
