It Happened! I Bought a Bike!

You can now see me cruising Northfield roads on two wheels instead of four.

Last month to give me advice for purchasing a bike.

And boy did they respond.

Well, I finally pulled the trigger and closed the deal last week with Tom Bisel at . Thanks Tom!

I ended up buying a used Pacific Kodiak mountain bike. It was a low-cost entry into biking and should be suitable for the mostly paved roads I plan to ride. Perhaps once I shed a few pounds and get more adventurous, I'll upgrade. We'll see.

I went for my first ride Saturday morning. I went for a relatively easy 20 minutes. After sitting in front of a computer for the better part of the past 14 years and only playing hockey and softball once a week for short stretches throughout the year, I didn't want to push it. I'll shoot for 21 minutes on my next ride (only kidding). I hope to get into the routine of biking three or four days a week, maybe more if all goes well. I look forward to exploring the city and its many trails.

And for those who are curious, I have yet to purchase a bike helmet. There's been some interesting and Locally Grown about the need of a bike helmet if the cyclist is only riding around our fair city. I plan to buy one. I don't care if I look "stupid" and it surely hasn't deterred me from biking. Being lazy was my deterrent.

Maybe I'll see you out and about. I'll be the guy short of breath.
