Yay ... Boxelder Bugs Are Back

Many of you have probably noticed our friends are back.

If you've taken a look at sunny spots on the exterior of your homes, you've probably seen plenty of boxelder bugs.

As most of us know, these creepy-crawlies always find a way into our homes. While they don't bite, they are a nuisance and can leave stains with their excrement.

Last fall, we  with some tips in which to deal with boxelder bugs:

• The University of Minnesota offers tips on dealing with boxelder bugs gathering in or outside your home.
• Boxelderbugs.net also provides tips on the best pesticides and natural solutions for bug control.

I'm far from an expert, but this odd weather seems to have really played some tricks.

Penny Hillemann, however, who blogs over at Penelopedia, knows much more about nature and its workings than I do.

As I entertained the idea of writing about the return of the boxelder bugs a few days ago, I saw she posted a fairly alarming video last night of what she estimates to be more than 1,000 boxelder bugs on the brick exterior of her home. (The video is attached to this post.)
