Heat Advisory for Northfield, Excessive Heat Warning for Minneapolis, St. Paul

With a forecast high of 99 degrees, the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Northfield, Rice County and much of southern Minnesota.

Thermometers reached 97 degrees yesterday in Minneapolis and the surrounding area, a record high temperature for the day. With temperatures forecast to be even higher today, with even more humidity, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the entire Twin Cities metro area, including Northfield, until 8 p.m.

Heat index readings will climb past 105 this afternoon in Northfield.

There's a chance the Twin Cities could see its first 100 degree reading since July 31, 2006. If we do get that hot, it wouldn't be the earliest 100 degree day ever, that happened on May 31, 1934 when it was 106, according to the NWS.
