Letter to the Editor: Support Rhonda Pownell for Mayor

To the Editor:

Rhonda Pownell will get my vote for mayor on November 6.

In her tenure on the city council, Rhonda has made thoughtful votes, based on her thorough preparation and her skills at listening to citizens, city staff and her council colleagues. She brings a statewide context to the table through her work as a member of the board of the League of Minnesota Cities. She also brings an admirable commitment to service to her work as a councilor.

Collaboration is a strong value for Rhonda, and she has the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups. A member of the city’s Economic Development Authority, she has worked to support local businesses and to raise Northfield’s visibility as a good place to establish new businesses. She was instrumental in the creation of a video about Northfield which now can be seen on the city’s website,

Rhonda is accessible and a good listener. Our city council needs a leader who will facilitate informed decision-making, drawing from the skills, interests and views of colleagues. As Rhonda says, “The mayor can’t do it alone.”I firmly believe she is poised to be a positive influence on the important work the council will do during the coming years.
