VIDEO: School District Makes Summer a PLUS

On Monday, an open house was held for residents to check out the Summer PLUS program, which serves at-risk students.

Pennies, tinfoil and wrestlers—not three words you usually find grouped together, but with the ' Summer PLUS program, all three are used as teaching tools.

The six-week program, which serves about 280 kindergarten through eighth-grade students, ends Thursday.

On Monday, an open house was held for residents to check out Summer PLUS, which serves at-risk students with three hours of daily teacher time in the morning and enrichment activities in the afternoon. The program, funded by several partners including the and , is in place to help with education retention during the three-month summer break.
