In Light of 35W Bridge Anniversary: Are Oakdale Bridges Safe?
Only one out of 23 bridges in Oakdale is considered functionally obsolete.

Five years ago the I-35W bridge over the Mississippi River collapsed, killing 13 people and injuring 145 people.
The tragedy occurred on Aug. 1, 2007. Since then the Minnesota Department of Transportation and other authorities have continued to work toward ensuring the safety of bridges across the state.Β
Oakdale is home to 23 bridges and one is defined as "functionally obsolete," according to theΒ National Bridge Inventory Database.

Functionally obsolete means the bridge's design is no longer functionally adequate for its task. According to the NBID website, a functionally obsolete status could mean a bridge is safe and structurally sound, but it has other aspects that need updating.Β
The bridge is along County State Aid Highway 10 and crosses over Interstate 694. Here are some quick facts about the bridge:
