Civil War Talk Part of Historic Courthouse History Program

From Washington County:

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, at which the soldiers of the First Minnesota so bravely fought to save the Union.

To commemorate the event, the public is invited to a program presented by Michail Frain on the life of a Civil War soldier and the Battle of Gettysburg during the History in Your Backyard event at the Washington County Historic Courthouse Sunday, April 7.

Frain will be speaking in the second floor courtroom from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the daily life of a soldier, to see artifacts from the Civil War, and to ask questions of Frain.Β

The History In Your Backyard event begins at noon and runs until 3 p.m. Old-fashioned games, jail tours, an exhibit on high school athletics and visiting with purveyors of local history will spark interest in the vast and varied history of Washington County and the St. Croix Valley.
