MnDOT Announces Closures for Highway 36, Gateway Trail

The Minnesota Department of Transportation on Friday announced upcoming closures for eastbound Highway 35 between Interstate 694 and Viking Drive.

There will likely be delays as crews close both lanes on that section of the highway in order to install a new drainage pipe at Viking Pond. 

Posted detours will direct drivers to Highway 5.

Weather permitting, the lanes are expected to reopen by 10 p.m. Sunday, June 2. 

Meanwhile, Gateway State Trail users will experience delays as both directions of the trail tunnel beneath Highway 36 in Pine Springs will close intermittently starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28.

Those on the trail will likely encounter flagging operators and up to 30-minute delays in the workzone.

The work is part of the larger Highway 36/Hilton Trail interchange project in Lake Elmo, Pine Springs and Grant. To learn more about the project, visit the MnDOT website.
