Oakdale AmericInn Could Become Senior Housing
A workshop will be held prior to the Feb. 24 council meeting to review the project.

Oakdale's AmericInn building, located atΒ 6630 Hudson Blvd., could soon become a senior housing facility. At present, the hotel is still open for business.Β
During its Jan. 14 gathering, members of theΒ Oakdale City Council heard plans by Peaceful Living, Inc.Β to convert the hotel into a 57-bedΒ assisted-living facility.
Peaceful Living, Inc., which also owns a senior care center in St. Paul, submitted a proposal to amend the cityβs comprehensive plan and zoning map in order toΒ allow the land to be utilized for high-density residential use.

The land is presentlyΒ zoned for commercial use, andΒ is surrounded by low-density residential zoning.
Prior to the city council meeting, theΒ planning commission unanimously recommended amending the comprehensive plan and zoning map. However,Β city council members ultimately voted to table the item until its Feb. 25 meeting.

βIβm not opposed to the project, but Iβd like to table (the discussion)," council memberΒ Kent Dotas said. "Iβm uncomfortable moving forward at this time and would like to know more about it before we take action."
Council member Stan Karwoski echoed Dotas' sentiment.
βI will have a hard time supporting a zoning change in the future, but I would like to come to some conclusion,β he said.
A workshop will be held prior to the Feb. 24 council meetingΒ to mull possible ways to move forward with the project. The workshop will be held at 5 p.m., while the council meeting is scheduled forΒ 7 p.m.Β
Both meetings will be heldΒ at City Hall.
