Oakdale Man Accused of Stealing Friend's Car After Morning at Casino

Eric Martinez, 37, was charged last week with felony-level robbery after an incident in May.

An Oakdale man is facing robbery charges after he was accused of stealing his friend's vehicle after leaving a casino together.

Eric Martinez, 37, of Oakdale appeared in Washington County District Court last week regarding an incident that occurred earlier this spring.

According to the criminal complaint, the St. Paul Park Police Department received a report of a stolen vehicle in Newport on May 10. The complainant said he had been at Treasure Island Casino that morning with the defendant and another man.

The group had stayed at the casino the previous night. When they first arrived Martinez put something inside of the comlainant's trunk and asked to hold on to the complainant's car keys.Β 

The next day when the group left the casino, Martinez told the complainant to hand over his cell phone too. When he refused, Martinez said, "Give me your phone or I will [expletive] you up," according to the complaint.

The complainant handed over the phone and the men drove to St. Paul Park where Martinez pulled the complainant's car over and told the complainant to get out of the vehicle. When he refused, Martinez said he had one "last chance" to get out of the car or else he would pull him out.Β 

Then Martinez and the other man drove away.

In an interview with police officers the compainant said he thought Martinez was going to beat him up and "he's not a fighter."Β
