Tuesday: Oakdale Schools Closed Again Due to 'Extreme Cold'

"The North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District has cancelled school on Tuesday, Jan. 28 because of the extreme cold weather," a press release from the district stated. "This means there will be no school and no morning, afternoon or evening activities, including middle school conferences and the school board meeting, on Tuesday, Jan. 28."

Most every school in the state, including the University of Minnesota, called off classes Monday as daybreak temperatures were below zero.

Brutally cold weather has ruined the chance for any regular five-day school weeks in January in many Minnesota school districts—including Oakdale's, where Tuesday will mark the fifth day of canceled classes this month.

The district hasn't said if it is considering the need to make up an instructional day.

Winds at sustained speeds of around 10 to 15 mph are expected again Tuesday with temperatures in the teens to 20 below zero in the morning, creating wind chill effects of 30 to 40 below zero.
