Oakdale Man's Son Sentenced for Threatening to Kill Him
Daniel Martin Kjonaas, 34, was ordered to submit to chemical dependency testing and to have no contact with his parents for five years

Washington County Judge John C. Hoffman sentenced 34-year-old Daniel Martin Kjonaas to a year in jail and a series of other conditions after Martin was convicted of threatening to kill his father.
Judge Hoffman stayed 360 days of the sentence for two years and ordered Kjonaas to submit to chemical dependency testing and attend anger management classes.Β
Hoffman also ordered Kjonaas to have no contact with his parents for a period of five years. Β

According to an amended criminal complaint filed in September 2011, Kjonaas's mother contacted Oakdale police on April 14 after receiving 25 threatening text messages within 54 minutes from her son.
Excerpts of those text messages, which have been edited to omit profanities, include the following:

Received at 4:27 p.m.
"If I was as childish as that poor excuse of a father I have I'd take that (expletive) moped back and beat his fragile ASS toΒ death with his own (expletive) gun. (Expletive) him! Miserable piece of (expletive)."Β Β
Received at 4:29 p.m.
"Wait till I see him ma. Thank yourself for it. Tell him to keep it loaded. I ain't Mike, I do what the (expletive) I say. Kisses and hugs baby."Β Β
When Kjonaas's mother threatened to contact police if the text messages didn't stop, she received the following text.
"Show the cops, ma. Let's see how that goes. I'll get probation,Β lol."Β
According to the complaint, Kjonaas's mother told police she fears her son and believes he is capable of killing his father.
Kjonaas's father told police he had obtained a permit to carry a firearm to protect himself from his son, the complaint states.Β He also told police his son has a history of methamphetamine use. Β Β
Oakdale police reportedly contacted Kjonaas via telephone wherein he denied directly threatening his father. During the conversation Kjonaas said he was, "angry with his parents because theyΒ had disowned his sister because of the man she was dating," the complaint states.Β Β
