Tartan Teacher Works with 3M Scientists, Will Apply Skills to Classroom
Britta Dwyer spent her summer vacation working with 3M scientists and engineers in a summer program through Saint Mary's University.

Britta Dwyer, a teacher at Tartan High School, participated in 3Mβs Teachers Working in Science and Technology (TWIST) program this summer as a part of her continuing education through Saint Maryβs University.Β
The six-week TWIST program provides middle school and high school teachers with opportunities to work alongside 3M scientists and engineers on research projects such as evaluating materials for healthcare products and investigating adhesives for industrial applications. Dwyer is one of 10 Saint Maryβs participants who will bring these real-world science applications into the classroom this fall.Β
βAt a time when there is a push to more effectively engage students in science, technology, engineering, and math education, Saint Maryβs is helping enhance teachersβ understanding of how scientific concepts are applied in the real world,β said Scott Walker, the director of Graduate Professional Development for Educators (GPDE) at Saint Maryβs University.Β βTWIST positions these teachers to develop hands-on curricula that will help educate the next generation of scientists.β
