Woodbury Leadership Academy (WLA) is a tuition-free, K-12 public charter school where high expectations and success matter to all! Our learning environment and school community promotes academic achievement for students in grades K-12, as well as personal integrity, equity and a dedication to value and serve others. Our school is committed to our students’ long term success. We use inquiry based learning by teaching the Core Knowledge Curriculum — building strong skills in math, reading, writing, history, science and technology. We also have a strong character education program to ensure students develop exceptional leadership skills. The character education program includes service learning projects and a focus of five core virtues - respect, responsibility, perseverance, gratitude and humanity. WLA uses the rigorous and classical Core Knowledge Curriculum to build strong foundational knowledge across subjects, promoting academic excellence and equity. By ensuring all students share common knowledge, we can narrow achievement gaps and build critical thinking and long-term success. The students met their goal.That means <a href="https://oakdale.patch.com/listings/transfiguration-catholic-school">Transfiguration Catholic School</a> Principal Jan Heuman must soon spend a day on the roof."We have fun," she said.The goal was $40,000, raised as part of the school's annual Walkathon, which had beaten that figure by $827 on Thursday."We expect more to come in next week," Heuman said.The Oakdale school has held the Walkathon for the past several years. Students got pledges from friends and family and on Thursday walked to the <a href="http://www.ci.maplewood.mn.us/index.aspx?nid=342" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Maplewood Nature Center</a>.The funds go into the school's budget and support its programming, Heuman said."We have a lot of fun with it and it builds school spirit," she said.
