Letter: Supports Dan Waltenberg for Plymouth Council At-Large

The Plymouth business owner and former long time resident writes in support of Dan Waltenberg for the Plymouth City Council At-Large seat.

To the Editor:

sn’t it time to remove the career politicians with elected citizens who bring energy, integrity and fresh ideas?  Isn’t it time to remove the career politicians who hang on and have a track record of self-serving dealings that have enriched them personally at the expense of Plymouth’s citizens?  Isn’t it time for change?

I moved to Plymouth in 1994, shortly after Jim Willis was forced to resign the City Manager position due to an excessive compensation and benefits package, which violated a state law. Governor Mark Dayton, then state Auditor, singly pointed out Jim Willis as a public official with an “excessive and outrageous” package, as reported by the StarTribune.  Since then, Willis has continued to hang on in local politics, continuing to serve in the Plymouth City Council.

I believe the residents of Plymouth can do better than Jim Willis. Dan Waltenberg represents a better future for Plymouth residents.  Dan believes the City Council is charged with the task of leading a government that is fiscally responsible, lives within its means, and works with the business community to create an economic environment that encourages entrepreneurship and promotes responsible growth.  Above all, Dan believes that elected representatives should do no harm to residents, and that includes enriching themselves at the public’s expense.  That concept particularly appeals to me. Dan Waltenberg represents a better future for Plymouth than Jim Willis.  I believe Dan Waltenberg deserves our vote for City Council on Nov. 6.
