Mayor Slavik Wants MnDOT's I-494 Shoulder Project 'Done Right'
MnDOT's plans to widen the shoulders on the only two-lane stretch of Interstate 494 has Plymouth's mayor calling for more, according to KSTP.com.

Anyone making a weekend escape to a summer cabin up north has most likely been met with the twinkle of tail lights on I-494.
According to KSTP.com, the Minnesota Department of Transportation's plan to widen the shoulders on the only two-lane stretch of I-494 has Plymouth Mayor Kelli Slavik asking for more.
"We have asked, if you're going to do it now, do it right and get the job done," Slavik told KSTP.
MnDOT's plan, which is called a "dynamic shoulder," takes the place of adding a dedicated third lane, which Slavik believes is unfair to residents and businesses in Plymouth. According to KSTP, Slavik said the city sees a lot of spill-over traffic and the streets aren't built to handle it.
The bottom line? Fixed lanes would cost $40 million, while the dynamic shoulder option is just $20 million.
