Police Find Plymouth Man Asleep In Stolen Car

Police say they found Lamario Lamont Calhoun sleeping in a stolen Chevrolet pickup with the engine running, but no key in the ignition.

A Plymouth man has been charged with car theft after police say they found him sleeping in a stolen truck with the motor running.

Lamario Lamont Calhoun, 29, is charged with two felonies: car theft and receiving stolen property, each of which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, signed by Minneapolis Police Sgt. Michael Keefe, police were called to downtown Minneapolis at about 11:30 p.m. July 24 on a report of a man asleep in a pickup truck.

When they arrived, they checked the 1995 Chevrolet pickup’s license plate and found that the vehicle had been reported stolen. The engine was running, but there was no key in the ignition.

Officers found Calhoun asleep in the driver’s seat and awakened him. He told police that he knew the truck was stolen.

Calhoun’s lengthy criminal record includes convictions ranging from car theft when he was 17 to riding public transit without paying the fare to driving with a revoked license.

Calhoun remains in the Hennepin County Jail on a $3,000 bond. His next court appearance is set for Aug. 7 in Hennepin County District Court.
