Robbinsdale Schools' DI Teams Place Fourth
The Plymouth M.S. and Neill Elementary DI teams took fourth at the global competition.
The two Destination ImagiNation teams representing Robbinsdale Area Schools at the 2012 Global Tournament proved that imagination can, indeed, dictate destination. The teams took home fourth place in their age group with 1,276 teams competing from 45 states, seven Canadian provinces and thirteen countries. This result came on the heels of the two teams placing first in the state of Minnesota in April.
The Pink Ladies of were part of the middle level Coming Attractions challenge where they created a movie trailer titled The Adventures of the Pink Ladies. Alexa Johnson starred as Ginger Flame, Leah Baker and Ciarra Fagerlie as her minions, Julia Roston and Kelly Mikkelson as Russian spies, and Mia Hanson and Alyssa Egstad as Swedish spies. The team competed against teams from Brazil, Canada, China, Columbia, England, Mexico, South Korea and Turkey, as well as many states in the U.S.
“The girls worked hard and played hard. It was an awesome experience that the girls, coaches and parents will never forget,” said Heidi Roston, who coaches the Pink Ladies along with her husband, Todd.

The Neill Elementary School Ostriches, made up of team members Ben Egstad, Amya Enna, Simon Hanson, Henry Hubred, Natalie Kohn, Ali Roston and Abby Sobol, took fourth place in their challenge, which was to present a movie trailer involving characters from at least two nations. The team needed to design a cinematic special effect and feature it in the movie trailer, and create an original soundtrack that complemented the movie trailer. The Ostriches’ trailer, The Virus of Venice, was about children from Venice traveling back in time to Israel to find an antidote for a virus that was killing all of the adults.
"I am very proud of my team,” said Ken Strand, coach of the Ostriches. “They saved their best performance of the year for the Global Finals.”
