Safer Crosswalk Now At Wayzata Central M.S.

The pedestrian crossing on Vicksburg Lane near just got safer thanks to a generous donation from the Plymouth Community Foundation.

The crosswalk warning light on Vicksburg Lane at Wayzata Central was replaced with a sign built with embedded LED lights that can be activated by pedestrians. Now brighter, the LED warning lights will blink when a pedestrian pushes the button to cross.

Representatives from the foundation met with city of Plymouth staff last winter to express their desire to fund a project to enhance safety at a school in the city. Staff members from the city and the were already exploring the possibility of installing a pedestrian-activated warning device for the crosswalk at the middle school. This plan proved to be a good fit for the foundation’s goal of funding a project that greatly improves safety.

The Plymouth Community Foundation donated more than $5,000 to purchase the pedestrian-activated warning device for the crosswalk. The city and school district collaborated to install the device.

“Both the city and the school district are very grateful to the Plymouth Foundation for this generous donation,” said Plymouth Public Works Director Doran Cote. “It helped bring our ideas for improved safety near the school to fruition.”
