"According to witnesses, the motorcyclist was traveling east-bound on County Road C when he is alleged to have entered the Prior Avenue intersection on a red semaphore light and struck a Renewal by Andersen box truck as it turned from west bound County Road C to enter the business parking lot," Roseville Police said in a news statement.

Police officials continued:

"Upon arrival of police, the 53-year old motorcyclist was found unconscious, with a severed left leg below the knee, a fractured arm and facial injuries. The motorcyclist was transported by ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center for care. The preliminary police investigation indicates the cyclist wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the truck, who suffered no apparent injuries, has been identified as a 39- year old Eden Prairie man and is cooperating with police.
Because of the seriousness of this accident, the Minnesota State Patrol was requested to assist with the investigation/reconstruction.

During the course of the accident investigation, both east and west-bound lanes of County Road C between Fairview and Cleveland Avenues were closed for approximately two hours.
According to preliminary police reports, pre-accident crash causes may have been speed, a semaphore violation and failure to yield as possible contributing factors in this crash.
Police will continue to investigate and will update the media if there is a change in the cyclist’s medical condition."
