Meeting A Wrestling Legend and Other Reflections on London Olympics From Roseville's Scott Halida

The Roseville chiropractor was part of the U.S. medical staff that served American athletes during the London Summer Olympics.

Editor's Note: Scott Hailda, a chiropractor at in Roseville, was on the medical staff that served U.S. athletes at the 2012 London Summer Olympics. In this opinion post for Roseville Patch, Halida reflects on his time at the summer games.

"Back on US soil.  What an awesome experience.  Recovered from jet lag and back into the swing of things here with family and practice.  I really missed them all.

I missed my wife and kids greatly and the schedule of helping Roseville and the surrounding community.  Dr. Trent Iverson and Dr. Hugh Wegwerth are amazing and made it easy for me to concentrate in London while they delivered life changing healthcare here.  I owe them and the rest of the team a lot.

Met a lot of great people while there. One of particular note was wrestling legend Dan Gable. Such a generous and engaging man. He would talk your ear off telling you about his sport, experience, and Olympic knowledge.  What a blessing to have chatted with him; his fire and competive nature gets going even now when talking about wrestling.

My earliest memory of the Olympics and a hero were of 1976 and Bruce Jenner winning the decathlon.  His gold medal victory plastered all over my Wheaties box as a kid is burned into my brain.  So when given the opportunity to see the USA's own gold medal favorite Ashton Eaton and Trey Hardee compete in the decathlon I jumped at the chance to watch them high jump and run the 400 meters. They did not disappoint and brought home gold and silver respectively.  Simply amazing.

People keep asking how the weather was.  It was excellent, very little rain.  When it did rain it would last for about five minutes and the sun would return.  There were several days where it rained 5-10 times with this mini shower.

Incidentally, in speaking with a local tour guide he said London usually gets less rain than New York by almost half.  That runs contrary to what most think of with London rain and fog.  He also shared the famous London fog/smog was due to the large practice of burning coal to heat the homes and businesses and has not been a problem for more than 30 years.

How was the food?  London has some incredible Indian food and we made sure to sample that mutiple times without disappointment. We also did some of the ones I remembered liking back when I spent some time studying north of London, Harlaxton College, in 1989.  The shepards pie was delicious but I was not blown away by my fish and chips.

I always say life and health are a journey, not a destination and we should enjoy the ride and not be obsessed with getting to a certain destination.

It is now time for outragous health and fun for all of us right here in the Twin cities. I give thanks for these treasured memories."
