Laliberte Schedules Listening Tour

Roseville City Council candidate has dates set to hear residents' concerns.

Following last month's Primary Election, Roseville City Council candidate Lisa Laliberte said she is planning to host a series of community listening sessions.

“Listening to Roseville residents has been very valuable, but I know that I have not had a chance to hear everyone’s thoughts and concerns," Laliberte said in a statement. "My door-knocking continues. But I also wanted to make myself available to those whom I’ve missed at the door or haven’t met yet. People have busy lives, but that doesn’t mean they don’t care about their community.

"I think it is important to be continually providing new and different ways for residents to present their opinions and become more engaged." Laliberte continued.  "I hope this is one of those opportunities.

Last month, Laliberte led a field of seven City Council candidates in last month's Primary Election. She and three other candidates  _ Jason Etten, Karen Schaffer and Bill Hoffman _ will be  competing for two council seats at the November 6 general election. (.)

“While I’m not an elected official and I am unable to personally address any immediate concerns for residents,” acknowledged Laliberte, “I want to give people a time and a place to bring forth their thoughts and ideas without the limitations of a formal meeting or a set agenda.

"As a candidate I am asking to represent the residents and in order for me to do that, I need to collect their views in as many ways as I possibly can,” she added in her statement.

Listening Sessions at Roseville Library

Laliberte has scheduled four "listening sessions." The events will be held in the Community Room at the 2180 N. Hamline Ave., on the second and third Thursdays of September and October.

The first half of each session will be reserved for residents who want to talk one-on-one with Laliberte about their specific ideas or concerns. The balance of the session could be opened up to a group discussion depending on the interests of the attendees and demand for the candidate’s undivided time.

The exact dates and times are as follows:

Thursday, Sept. 13 from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 20 from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 11 from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 18 from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

In addition, Laliberte has invited a representative for NextDoor.com (a social network for Roseville residents) and members of the Neighborhood and Community Engagement Task Force (a project of the Roseville Human Rights Commission) to attend and share information for becoming more involved in their neighborhoods and civic governance.  ( to see Roseville Patch's latest story on the Civic Engagement Task Force.)

“Listening to residents should not begin or end with a campaign, but be part of an ongoing process for good and responsible government,” Laliberte said.

If elected in November, Laliberte said she would like to work with the civic, philanthropic and service organizations that are active in Roseville and continue to host similar events for residents.
