Liane Gale Running for Roseville Council

Resident feels city "right now is going in the wrong direction."

Liane Gale, an eight-year Roseville resident, said she has spent most of her life working in the sciences.

But now Gale, 49, said she is looking for a new direction in the second half of her life.

That's a major reason why Gale said she is running for the Roseville City Council. She is seeking one of two four-year terms on the Council. With seven candidates running, a primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 14.

"I want to focus on political and social issues," said Gale, who spent the last 13 years as a research scientist at the USDA Cereal Disease Laboratory and the University of Minnesota. "Where can I (now) have an impact? It is in the community.

"The City Council would be a very good position where I could affect change towards trying to make a better future," she sadid, adding,"Think globallly, act locally."

Gale contended that Roseville "is in a bit of a decline, but it has a lot of potential too. Right now, we are going in the wrong direction."

She cited, as examples, the City Council's decision last fall to connect up County Road C2 and its recent vote to approve a final plat for a proposed Wal-Mart store in the city's Twin Lakes neighborhood.

Regarding the proposed Wal-Mart, Gale said, "We have enough big boxes. We need more local businesses."

Born in Germany, Gale said she came to the United States about 20 years. Having lived in several different areas, "I can provide a fresh look (at issues)," she said.

Gale is married to her husband Sam and she has a 10-year-old son Matthew.
