Obama's Speech Snares Kudos From Roseville Delegates

President Barack Obama's acceptance speech Thursday night gained strong approval from two Roseville residents who were among Minnesota's 115 delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.

"It is good he (Obama) talked about the future and his vision for the next four years, of hope and the possibility of what we can be. That is what we needed to hear," said Patrick Coleman, who was attending his second DNC. (Coleman's first one came  when he was part of Minneota's delegation in 2008 to the DNC in Denver.)

Despite what he considered a rousing speech, Coleman said one concern he has is whether many people watched Obama's speech. "It is usually the true believers who tune in," said Coleman, a brother of St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and chief curator at the Minnesota Historical Society.

Nevertheless, Coleman said he expects delegate enthusiasm to Obama's speech and the convention to result in them working more volunteer hours for the President's re-election.  

Meanwhile, Kaying Thao, who was attending her first DNC, said Obama came across as personable "and speaking to the common person. I think those who doubted him (Obama) will come over to the good side and vote for him in November."

Thao, who is a member of the Roseville School Board, was the only Hmong American delegate at the convention. To read more about Thao at the convention
