Reminder: Citizens Meeting Tonight on Proposed Roseville Wal-Mart

Meeting to be held at City Hall.

A group of Roseville citizens are holding a meeting tonight (Tuesday) to inform  residents "of our options regarding the possibility of a Wal-Mart store being built at Fairview and County Rd C."

The informational meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Roseville City Hall, 2660 Civic Center Drive, in the downstairs Burr Oak Room.

The City Council is expected to discuss and possibly take action at an April meeting on Wal-Mart' s request for preliminary plat approve to build a a 160,000 square-foot store on about a 14-acre parcel of land that is bounded by County Road C, Cleveland Avenue, Twin Lakes Parkway and Prior Avenue. The proposal is also being advanced by owners of the property, Roseville Properties.

The citizens group is SWARN which stands for the Solidarity of West Area Roseville Neighbors. It includes Roseville neighborhoods west of Snelling Avenue. Its first task is to try to get more community input and voices heard on this issue before the Council April votes, said SWARM organizer Gary Grefenberg.

The community meeting will begin with a showing of the conclusion of the PBS Frontline documentary Is Wal-Mart Good for America?, Grefenberg said. Some other detailed studies on Wal-Mart will also be discusssed, he said.
