Rosedale Center Responds to Colorado Tragedy

Officials at Rosedale Center in Roseville said today they are stepping up security at their shopping mall in light of a tragedy in Colorado that has left at least 12 people dead after a lone gunman entered a theater in that state and went on a shooting spree.

"We have an increased security presence at our property until further notice," said Rollin Hunsicker, general manager for Rosedale, whose tenants include the AMC Theatres. "We continue to monitor the situation."

A lone gunman entered a theater at around 12:30 a.m. Friday in Colorado and went on a rampage, killing at least 12 people and injuring 59 others,  according to a WCCO TV news report. The man, later identified by authorities as 24-year-old James Holmes, was taken into custody without incident in connection with the shootings. Theater goers had come to see the movie "Batman: The Dark Knight Rises."

Hunsicker said he and his Rosedale staff were "shocked and saddened" by the killings in Colorado. "Our hearts go out to the families of the victims," he said.

Although declining to divulge specifics about Rosedale's security practices, Hunsicker said the shopping mall maintains a highly-trained security staff whose duties include regular patrolling.

Hunsicker said the safety of the Center's shoppers, visitors and tenants is of top priority. He added the Center coordinates its security efforts with the Roseville Police Department.

At the Roseville Police Department, Lt. Lorne Rosand said, "The information specific to Rosedale Center and/or AMC will be the department will be providing extra patrol but will not provide any additional information concerning when or how often."

Meanwhile, Missouri-based AMC Theatres issued the following statement:

"AMC Theatres is deeply saddened by the Aurora tragedy. Movie going is part
of our social fabric and this senseless act shakes us to our core. We're reinforcing our security procedures with our theatre teams, which we cannot discuss in detail for obvious, safety reasons.

Local law enforcement agencies, our landlords and their and our local security teams are stepping up nationwide to ensure we provide the safest environment possible for our guests. We couldn't be more grateful for their collective support.
At this time, our show schedules circuit-wide will not change. We will not allow any guests into our theatres in costumes that make other guests feel uncomfortable and we will not permit face-covering masks or fake weapons inside our buildings.

If guests wish to exchange or refund any tickets, we will honor our existing policy and do as our guests wish. We are taking necessary precautions to ensure our guests who wish to enjoy a movie this weekend can do so with as much peace of mind as possible in these circumstances."
