Roseville's Gordmans Store Throwing "g-Thanks Celebration" Saturday

Department store retailer Gordmans is holding a "g-Thanks Community Celebration" Saturday, May 5 at its Roseville location, the Crossroads of Roseville shopping center, 1663 County Road B2 West.

Gordmans’ Roseville store, which held its grand opening in March, is the retailer’s fourth Minnesota location.

The Roseville location was the 75th U.S. store for Gordmans. With eight other store openings slated this year, Gordmans expects to end 2012 with 83 stores, a hefty increase from the 68 stores it had at the end of 2010.

Besides Roseville, Gordmans plans to open stores this year in Salt Lake City, Boise, Denver and Indianapolis.

Through its "g-Thanks" event, Gordmans officials said they are acknowledging the warm welcome they and the new Roseville store have received.

Gordmans’ community celebration on Saturday will include: drawings for two $250 Gordmans shopping sprees, face painting from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., "Gordy" the Gordmans gopher mascot from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.,  DJ music from noon to 4 p.m. and cupcake samples and voting from noon to 4 p.m.

When Gordmans recently debuted its new Roseville location, the Omaha-based retailer reaffirmed it is in expansion mode-and that the department store model is far from dead. 

"We are so focused on providing great service and at great values, that we will succeed no matter what is the macro-economic environment," company CEO Jeff Gordman told Roseville Patch. His comments came after he and local dignitaries held a ribbon-cutting ceremony recently to officially mark the opening of Gordmans' 65,000 square-foot store at the Crossroads of Roseville shopping center.

Gordman said the company's typical new store costs $4 million to build. But the company's costs for its Roseville location were about $2.8 million to $2.9 million because it renovated existing space that once was home to a movie theater and indoor recreation park, he said.

Meanwhile, Gordmans said it is committed to giving back to the communities in which it serves. During its March grand opening festivities, through Partners in Education, Gordmans donated $2,500 to Roseville Area School District 623. The Gordmans associates at the Roseville store have adopted Central Park Elementary School as their partner school.

Gordmans says its niche is providing a wide array of home decor, brand apparel and accessories at prices discounted up to 60 percent of those of other competitors. The retailer said it also places a high emphasis on customer service and satisfaction.

Founded in 1915, Gordmans now operates its 78 stores in 18 Midwestern and surrounding states. Besides Roseville, it also has stores in Burnsvile, Woodbury and Mankato.
