Roseville's Ihlan Joins Met Council Committee

Former Roseville Council member appointed to Land Use Advisory Committee.

Former Roseville City Council member Amy Ihlan is among 18 people that the Metropolitan Council has appointed this week to its Land Use Advisory Committee (LUAC).

Ihlan, an attorney with Briol & Associates in Minneapolis, served on the Roseville City Council from 2004 to 2010.  She attended the U of M, Harvard Law School and Macalester College.

Ihlan told Roseville Patch she is honored and excited now to be a part of the Metro Council’s regional planning process.

“I got interested in land use and planning issues when I served on the Roseville City Council,” Ihlan said. “I applied for the Land Use Advisory Committee because I believe the Metropolitan Council’s role in regional planning is really vital for creating and maintaining liveable neighborhoods and communities, and for preserving our environment."

Ihlan’s appointment is through early 2015 and she will represent  Metro Council District 10 which includes Roseville, Arden Hills, Blaine, Circle Pines, Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Lexington, Mounds View, New Brighton, North Oaks, Shoreview, and Spring Lake Park.

“I hope to work together with local governments, residents and businesses and be a voice for our district on the planning and development issues we face,” Ihlan said. 

The LUAC's duties include rendering advice and assistance regarding metropolitan land use, comprehensive planning and matters of metropolitan significance.

Membership of the LUAC consists of 17 district representatives plus a Metro Council member as committee chair.

The Metropolitan Council is the regional planning organization for the seven-county Twin Cities area, according to the governmental unit  It runs, among other things, the regional bus and light rail system, collects and treats wastewater, manages regional water resources, plans regional parks and administers funds that provide housing opportunities for low – and moderate – income people.
