Grocery Foundation's Food Tour Makes a Stop in Roseville

Roundy's charitable arm visited Roseville Rainbow Foods to donate cash, food to area food shelves.

With local food shelves struggling to meet the demands from an increasing number of clients due to the struggling economy, represeentatives of Roundy's Foundation stopped in Roseville on Friday to try and ease the burden, a bit.

Foundation representatives, who were on their bi-annual "Focused on Feeding Families Tour," visited the Roseville Rainbow Foods supermarket to make a food and cash donation of more than $4,300 apiece to five area foodshelves. 

Rainbow’s employees were in their supermarket's parking lot, helping unload a semi-truck full of food that was given to representatives from these  food shelves: Friends in Need Food Shelf, St. Paul Park, Ruby's Pantry, North Branch, Hallie Q. Brown Food Shelf, St. Paul. Minnehaha Food Shelf, Minneapolis and Merrick Community Center, St. Paul.

The Foundation made a similar stop Friday in Brooklyn, winding up a five-day, 14-city charity run that gave away more $258,000 in food and cash to some 60 food shelves in Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin.

In a press statement, representatives for Roundy's noted that every day, more than 8,200 people visit food shelves looking for help. Also, food shelf visits have increased 164 percent in the last decade according to a recent survey from the Food Research and Action Center.

Roundy's Foundation said, "Spring is a crucial time for food pantries as holiday donations dwindle and they prepare for summer when children are out of school and eating more meals at home."

 

 

 

will be in the parking lot unloading a semi-truck full of 26,000 pounds of food that will be handed over to representatives from area food shelves who are feeling the strain of the economy and increased demand. Representatives from the Roundy’s Foundation also will be presenting a check to each food pantry.
