Update: Roseville Employee Shares Story on Suspicious Package

The Roseville Police Department responded to a call on Monday (Aug. 6) that a suspicious package had shown up at the offices of the Hoglund law firm.

Update (6 p.m. Wednesday): An employee, who works at the law firm but asked not to be identified, shared their story with Patch:

"My friend and I were outside when the police came. They first began blocking off the parking lot and we were curious. When we asked the officer, we were told that we could not go back into the building, and we had to go around back to speak with another officer.

An employee found the box in the parking lot and brought it into the law firm. When she noticed that it did not have any labels or markings, she placed it outside and called police.

We were told to go home and that the bomb squad was on their way, and it could be a couple of hours before we could get into the building. Employees could not take their vehicles if they were parked in the parking lot either.

When I went to work yesterday (Tuesday) they said the box had empty perfume bottles in it and was made to look like a bomb. This is just hearsay since I have no idea what the police found. But my understanding was that they took the box to a safe place in the parking lot and destroyed it."   

(Original post 6 a.m. Wednesday):

In an incident report, Roseville Police said they responded to the call about the suspicious package showing up at the main entrance to a law office at the 1700 block of County Road B. An employee brought the package inside but noticed it had no names or return address on it, police said.

After a call from employees of the law firm, Roseville Police went to the law firm offices, evacuated the building, then called the Minneota duty officer who in turned called the St. Paul Bomb Squad. 

"St. Paul Bomb Squad removed the package from the entrance and dismantled the item with their bomb robot in a safe location," according to the Roseville Police report. "The package appeared to contain empty cardboard boxes and paper items which were inventoried as evidence at RPD.

"There are no witnesses or suspects surrounding the origin of the package at this time."

The matter is now under police investigation.
