In a news release, Casual Male Retail Group said its new Roseville store offers more than 100 brands from its existing apparel businesses, Casual Male XL, Rochester Big & Tall, and ShoesXL, catering to the fashion needs of men who wear sizes XL and up.

According to the CDC and the U.S. Census Bureau, about half of all U.S. adult men have a waist size of 40 inches or greater, according to Casual Male Retail Group.

"There are currently few options in Roseville for these men to purchase fashionable clothing that fits. Often they are relegated to shopping the end of the rack at the major department stores, so Destination XL is a greatly needed addition to the marketplace," the company contended. The DXL store carries an assortment of private label clothing along with name brands such as Lacoste, Michael Kors, DKNY Jeans, Lucky Brand Jeans and Robert Graham.

In its latest earnings report, Casual Male Retail Group said it plans to open 35 new stores in fiscal 2012, giving it about 50 DXL stores.

The company said its goal is "to have at least one store located in most major metropolitan cities across the United States."

David Brennan, a Twin Cities retail academic, that the expansion of Destination XL comes at a time of some growth in the men's apparel segment.

"Men are dressing up more," said Brennan, co-director of the Institute for Retailing Excellence at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. "It's not a large demographic, but it (men's apparel) is growing."
