Update on Roseville Wal-Mart Store
Parties working on land sale; ground-breaking still expected this spring.

Giant retail discounter Wal-Mart is on track to break ground some time this spring on its proposed 160,000 square-foot store for Roseville's Twin Lakes area, a city official said.
"They (Wal-Mart) are still moving ahead on clearing (title) and gertting the plat recorded," Community Development Director Pat Trudgeon said in an interview with Roseville Patch. "The project is still a go."
Currently, Wal-Mart is hammering out final details to buy a 14-acre site from Roseville Properties Management Co. Â for the store. Â The big-box shop would be built on a site that is bounded by County Road C, Cleveland Avenue, Twin Lakes Parkway and Prior Avenue. Â

"We are trying to get the I's dotted and T's crossed," Mark Racone, vice-president at Roseville Properties Management, said this week. He added that Wal-Mart had recently submitted construction drawings for permit approval.Â
Patch was unable to reach Wal-Mart officials for comment.Â

Wal-Mart's imminent ground-breaking and arrival in Roseville has been controversial. The City Council last year was divided 3-2 on granting the discounter final plat approval and a citizens group unsuccessfully challenged the project.Â
Among some citizens' objections to the Wal-Mart store is that it is going to create traffic congestion, cirme and doesn't fit the Twin Lakes neighborhood.Â
As part of winning City Council approval, Wal-Mart has agreed- on a voluntary basis—to hire an off-duty police officer for three 8-hour days a week to help reduce the Roseville Police Department’s shoplifting calls for service.
