Wal-Mart Plat Vote in Roseville Delayed 'Til April
Controversial development plan set for either April 16 or 23 council meeting.

For the second time in two months, Wal-Mart Stores has asked Roseville to postpone considering the company's request to approve a preliminary plat and development plan for building a new store in the city's Twin Lakea area.
The City Council was first scheduled to hear the issue on Feb. 27; then the matter was rescheduled to March 26. Now, the matter is being pushed off until some time in April

The giant Arkansas-based discounter wants to build a 160,000 square-foot store on about a 14-acre parcel of land that is bounded by County Road C, Cleveland Avenue, Twin Lakes Parkway and Prior Avenue. The proposal is also being advanced by owners of the property, Roseville Properties.
"Walmart has requested that the City Council delay consideration of the plat and development agreement until a City Council meeting in April," the city said in an notice issued on Friday. "A date has not been set, but it will most likely be either the April 16th or April 23rd meeting. The City will share the date once it is known.

"Walmart requested the delay to allow more time to finalize a development agreement and to satisfy the conditions of approval recommended by the Planning Commission."

In January, the Roseville Planning Commission voted 5-1 to recommend supporting a preliminary plat for Wal-Mart Stores Inc.  to build a new big-box store in the city's Twin Lakes area.
But the commission's vote came only after a lengthy discussion during which some residents contended there hadn't be enough public notice about the proposal and questioned whether Roseville needs more retail development.
The commission's vote to support the preliminary plat came after city staff recommended approval, stating the preliminary plat falls within Roseville's comprehensive plan and zoning code, including a District 10 master plan for the Twin Lakes area.
