White House Recognition for a Roseville Company

Roseville-based Advanced Circulatory Systems Inc. said this week it has  received the Tibbetts Award from the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program for its efforts in research and development and for success in achieving innovation.

In a news statement, the private maker and marketer of advanced circulatory technology (http://www.advancedcirculatory.com) said it was recognized at a White House ceremony.

Advanced Circulatory also said it received the U.S. Army SBIR Achievement Award, for its ResQVENT transport ventilator.

Criteria for getting the Tibbetts Award include research innovation and originality; relevance to the U.S. Army’s mission, immediate commercialization potential and overall quality performance of the project, Advanced Circulatory said.

Advanced Circulatory Systems said it was honored specifically for its work in developing and deploying an innovative therapy for the treatment of low blood pressure and elevated intracranial pressure.

The SBA said, in its news announcement, the awards are presented to companies and individuals from across the United States who are “beacons of promise and models of excellence in high technology.” Advanced Circulatory Systems was one of 18 companies in the U.S. recognized with this award and was one of two companies from Minnesota.

Since its founding, Advanced Circulatory Systems said it has received more than  $17 million in funding from a combination of government grant sources including Department of Defense and National Institutes of Health.

The company’s first product, the ResQPOD impedance threshold device, delivers its innovative pressure regulating therapy to cardiac arrest patients. This therapy creates a vacuum inside the chest cavity to enhance circulation and increase blood pressure, the company said. The ResQPOD is currently available for sale and in use at more than 1,200 hospitals and EMS systems across the U.S.

Advanced Circulatory officials said their product has been successfully deployed in military, emergency medical services (EMS) and hospital markets. The ResQGARD impedance threshold device for breathing patients, was introduced to military and commercial emergency care markets in 2009.

The ResQVENT is an electronic, portable device that delivers novel Intrathoracic Pressure Regulation (IPR) therapy. It is designed for use on the battlefield and during transport of soldiers with traumatic brain injuries or hypotensive emergencies. Completion of the ResQVENT transport ventilator for IPR therapy is scheduled for 2012.
