EDA approves contract for demolition of the Scott County Workforce Center
The City Council, acting as the Economic Development Authority, approved a contract with Rachel Contracting LLC for $196,683 plus $50,000 in contingency for the demolition of the Scott County Workforce Center. Rachel Contracting submitted the lowest bid for the project by more than $81,000. Demolition is expected to take place this winter.

City takes next steps to make pedestrian bridge over Highway 169 a reality
The City Council adopted a resolution approving values and offers of compensation for easements the city needs to acquire in order to build a pedestrian bridge across Highway 169 connecting the
Southbridge neighborhood to Quarry Lake Park. The resolution also allows the city attorney to take steps to acquire the easements through eminent domain if necessary. City opts in to nationwide opioid settlement agreement
The City Council gave its approval for the city to opt in to a nationwide opioid settlement agreement against the three largest pharmaceutical distributors. The amount the city could receive is still unknown, but at least 85% of the funds must be used for abatement of the opioid epidemic. Council must still approve a resolution to affirm its decision and execute a participation agreement. More information: Bill Reynolds, City Administrator, 952-233-9311.
Council authorizes hire of police officer
The City Council authorized the hire of a police officer candidate at step 7 of the union contract. This hire required Council approval because it is above the mid-point of the compensation schedule for that position. More information: Jeff Tate, Police Chief, 952-233-9421.
