Council discusses rental housing ordinance

The City Council discussed a draft rental housing ordinance that would license and allow inspection of rental units. Council passes catalytic converter possession ordinance

The City Council approved a catalytic converter possession ordinance making it a misdemeanor to possess a detached catalytic converter in the city of Shakopee unless the owner can prove they purchased it or own the car from which it was removed. Though the ordinance was approved, it will come before council again for another vote due to a public notice issue. More information: Jeff Tate, Police Chief, 952-233-9421.

City Council approves contract for Prairie Bend Park playground replacement

The City Council awarded a contract in the amount of $111,999.62 to St. Croix Recreation Fun Playgrounds for the Prairie Bend Park playground replacement project. City honors retiring firefighter with resolution of appreciation

The City Councill adopted a resolution of appreciation to honor firefighter Bob Gieseke, who has retired after 24 years of service to the City of Shakopee. During his time with the Shakopee Fire Department, Gieseke served as firefighter, head engineer and captain. More information: Rick Coleman, Fire Chief, 952-233-9579.

City accepts donation from SignPro

The City Council graciously accepted a donation from SignPro equal to $6,543.68 in production costs. SignPro donated staff time to design and create the Zamboni wraps for the fire truck Zamboni and “Tankboni” at the Shakopee Ice Arena. Council approves contract for ash tree removal project

The City Council approved a contract with Pro-Tree Outdoor Services in the amount of $77,007.50 for the 2022 ash tree removal project for emerald ash borer mitigation. The contractor is required to notify adjacent property owners of tree removal activity in their area a minimum of 48 hours in advance. Council approves contract for tree pruning contract

The City Council approved a contract with Precision Landscape and Tree in the amount of $110 per hour for the 2022 tree pruning project. The contractor is required to notify adjacent property owners of any tree pruning activity in their area a minimum of 48 hours in advance. Council approves vehicle purchases

The City Council approved the purchase of equipment as outlined in the 2022 Capital Improvement Plan. Purchases include:

  • Skidsteer, Public Works, total purchase amount: $3,800
  • Two John Deere Gators, Public Works, total purchase amount: $10,825
  • John Deere tractor and Kage snow plow, Public Works, total purchase amount: $104,235
  • Toro Workman utility vehicle, Community Center, total purchase amount: $13,730
  • Three skidsteer loaders, Public Works, total purchase amount: $18,000
