Obituary

Georgia Rose Theis, age 84, of Shakopee, formerly of Bloomington, died July 29, 2012, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.
Georgia Rose was born on January 30, 1928, to the late William and Isabel (Lenzmeier) Theis, on the family farm south of Marystown in Scott County. She attended high school at Good Counsel Academy in Mankato and was the salutatorian of her graduation class. Georgia received her BA from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, and her Master's Degree in Counseling from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. She spent most of her career as a senior employment counselor doing vocational counseling in the Work Incentive Program (WIN), a federal work and training program. She retired in 1993.
Georgia lived the Gospel mandate of seeing Christ in the faces of the poor and less fortunate. She spent countless hours of time and energy helping relocate over 200 Vietnamese refugees during a span of 17 years. In December of 1996 she was the recipient of the Human Service Award from the McKnight Foundation for her dedicated service.
Survived by sisters, Sister Valeria Theis, SSND, and Sister Annabelle Theis, SSND; sister-in-law, Eleanor Theis; brother-in-law, LeRoy Wolf; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, William and Isabel Theis; brothers, Harold and Alvin; sisters, Lucille, Sister Jean Marie, SSND, Alice and Jeanette.

Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, August 4, 2012, 11:00 AM, at St. Mary of the Purification Catholic Church, 15850 Marystown Rd., Shakopee, MN. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation

Visitation Saturday from 9-10:45 AM at the Church.
