Jean Emily Mullin

Jean Emily Haferman Mullin, age 78, of Shakopee, MN, died on Monday, May 14, 2012, from ALS Lou Gehrig's Disease, at in Shakopee.
Born in New Prague, MN, on October 25, 1933, the daughter of Lawrence and Evelyn (Zaun) Haferman.Â
Jean spent all of her childhood in Lydia, MN, receiving her early grade school education at Dist. 21; the two room school in Lydia. She went on to Jordan High School and graduated with the class of 1951.
The fall of 1951, Jean decided to go on to Mankato State University. She earned a teaching degree in Elementary Education.
Jean's first teaching assignment was with the Prior Lake School District. After spending a year in Germany, France, and Spain, she returned and taught in the Shakopee School District at Central Elementary, from 1956-1969.
In 1957, Jean became very interested in politics, and joined the Young Republicans. She was chairwoman of Dick Mertz's campaign when he ran for Senator. She was also chairwoman for Richard Thomas. Jean attended many state conventions as a delegate from Dist. 35B. She was a delegate to two national conventions, one in San Diego in 1996, the other in Philadelphia in 2000.
Jean enjoyed her teaching career, and her time working with the Republican Party. She loved to read all kinds of literature, and enjoyed being alone listening to the quiet.
Preceded in death by husband, James Mullin; parents; and sister, Bonnie Timmons.
Survived by her companion and best friend, Gene Brown and family; sister, Cindy Royle; brother, Larry (Gerrie) Haferman; several nieces and nephews.

Services
Funeral Service Friday, May 18, 2012, 11:00 AM, at First Presbyterian Church, 909 South Marschall Road, Shakopee. Officiating at the service is the Reverend Bill Chadwick. Honorary Pallbearers are Samantha Berens, Brynn Berens, Katy Worre, Megan Yarusso, Haley Ratigan, and several past students. Pallbearers are Scott Hauer, Joe Theis, Ben Poole, Tom Romine, Vincent Brown, and Jason Brown. Interment Catholic Cemetery in Shakopee.

Thursday from 4-8 PM, and Friday from 9:30-10:30 AM, all at the McNearney Funeral Home, 1220 East Third Avenue, Shakopee.
