Recently Arrested Shakopee Man Used as Example of Sex Trafficking Problem

Minneapolis city councilors, stirred by recent arrests and disturbing stories of teenage girls swept from city streets and sold for sex on a popular website, last week unanimously approved a resolution demanding that New York-based Village Voice Media end its "adult services" section of Backpage.com, according to a report in the Star Tribune.

To illustrate the point of the problem, the story highlighted the arrest of a Shakopee man accused of sex trafficking and promoting prostitution.

Last week, Broderick B. Robinson, 38, of Shakopee was charged with two counts of sex trafficking and two counts of promoting prostitution after police say he persuaded two runaway teens from Eau Claire, WI., to become prostitutes, the story said.

The girls reportedly were supplied with drugs, dressed in lingerie and advertised on Backpage.com before they were rescued Saturday from a home in north Minneapolis. 

Robinson is free on a $75,000 bond and has an omnibus hearing scheduled Aug. 31. He is no stranger to the court system, is known for using false names and is currently on supervised probation after pleading guilty to a January DWI, court records show.
