City Cleanup Day Scheduled for April 27

Shakopee residents are invited to participate in spring cleaning on a grand scale on April 27, just five days after Earth Day.

The snow is thawing, the birds are chirping and all signs point to spring. You know what that means. It's time to clean out the house.

The City of Shakopee, Jackson Township and Louisville Township have made it official: Saturday, April 27 is now formally designated as Clean Up Day. From 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Shakopee Public Works building, 400 Gorman Street, residents will be able to safely discard of old appliances and electronics, yard waste, tires, car batteries, electronics, scrap metal and more. The cost is $25 per vehicle for recyclable items and $25 to $30 for non-recyclable trash.  for a list of accepted and non-accepted items.

The Shakopee Rotary will also be collecting unwanted furniture and household items for Bridging, Inc. a non-profit serving the poor. Donations are tax deductible. Desired items include lightly-used furniture, small appliances, kitchenware, linen and games and toys. To donate, drop off items on the north side of the Public Works building on Clean Up Day or contact Tim Whitcomb at (952) 445-6170 to schedule an at-home pick-up.

Clean Up Day is an exclusive affair. Only residents of the City of Shakopee, Jackson Township and Louisville Township will be allowed to participate and resident IDs will be checked. Anyone with questions is encouraged to call (952) 233-9550.
