City Council approves lease agreement with Training HAUS
The City Council approved a five-year lease with Training HAUS, which is owned by Twin Cities Orthopedics. Under the lease agreement, Training HAUS will rent 6,100 feet of space on the second floor of the Shakopee Ice Arena. Training HAUS is expected to have a minimum of one full-time and one part-time sports performance coach operating the facility during normal business hours. Within one year, TCO will establish a physical therapy presence in the Shakopee Ice Arena/Community Center with one part-time sports physical therapist. Training HAUS will also provide a sports dietician for use by athletes and Shakopee community members and a clinical navigator for athletes injured in their sport. Council approves board and commission appointments
The City Council appointed the following individuals to boards and commissions: Daniel Smith and Jeanna Fletcher to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board; incumbents Ashley Sepulvado and Noreen Reding to the Planning Commission; incumbent Miles Lahr to the Police Civil Service Commission; and incumbent Kathi Hofer-Mocol to the Shakopee Public Utilities Commission. Council green lights Summerland Place Second Addition
The City Council approved the final plat of Summerland Place Second Addition which is north of 17th Avenue, east of Balinese Street, south of Highway 169 and west of Canterbury Road. This phase of the development will consist of 78 townhouse lots, 95 single family lots, three common area lots and one outlot. More information: Mark Noble, Senior Planner, 952-233-9348.
Plans modified for Emblem Shakopee apartments
The City Council approved an amendment to the Planned Unit Development for the apartment development Emblem Shakopee. The initial concept plan was modified from three 100-unit buildings to 12 buildings with 24 units per structure. Emblem Shakopee will primarily consist of a mix of one and two bedroom units, with some studio and three bedroom units in the three-story buildings. Council sets new public hearing date for tax increment spending plan
The City Council rescheduled a public hearing for March 1 regarding the establishment of a tax increment spending plan. The Minnesota Legislature amended the law in 2021 to allow cities to use unobligated tax increment funds in existing districts to provide assistance for development and job creation in other parts of the community. City staff estimates the available increment is $500,000. High-wage job creation or the development of housing would be given preference for financing assistance under the proposed plan.
