Council schedules public hearing for 2022 street reconstruction projects

The City Council accepted a feasibility report and set a public hearing for Jan. 18 for the 2022 full-depth pavement reconstruction project. The projects impacts Gorman Street, Weston Court and Greenwood Court. More information: Ryan Halverson, Assistant City Engineer, 952-233-9366.

Council sets public hearing regarding tax increment spending plan

The City Council set a public hearing for Feb. 1 regarding the establishment of a tax increment spending plan. The Minnesota Legislature amended the law in 2021 to allow cities to use unobligated tax increment funds in existing districts to provide assistance for development and job creation in other parts of the community. City staff estimates the available increment is $500,000. High-wage job creation or the development of housing would be given preference for financing assistance under the proposed plan. Council approves vehicle purchases

The City Council approved the purchase of equipment as outlined in the 2022 Capital Improvement Plan. Purchases include:

  • Four patrol vehicles, Police Department, total purchase amount: $204,802
  • Slope mower, Public Works, total purchase amount: $141,392
  • Street sweeper, Public Works, total purchase amount: $290,528
  • Two 2021 plow trucks, Public Works, total purchase amount: $523,128
  • Four John Deere mowers, Public Works, total purchase amount: $37,860

City passes resolution of support for Scott County transportation sales tax

The City Council adopted a resolution supporting the 10-year extension of the Scott County transportation sales tax. The sales tax has generated about $10 million annually since its enactment in 2015. The extension would allow about 12 previously-identified projects to be completed in the county. EDA decertifies Rahr expansion TIF district

The City Council, acting as the Economic Development Authority, voted to decertify the Rahr expansion tax increment financing district established in 2017. The TIF district is being decertified four years sooner than required, which will add approximately $900,000 into the city’s net tax capacity in 2022.
