City to apply for $1M grant for innovation center

The City Council gave its approval for the city to apply for a Targeted Community Capital Project grant of $1 million from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. The grant would be used as a funding source for The Hub, Shakopee’s regional innovation center. More information: Michael Kerski, Planning and Development Director, 952-233-9346.

City to replace downtown message board

The City Council approved a contract with Indigo Signs for $31,033 plus $5,000 in contingency to replace the existing electronic messaging board seen from Highway 101 in downtown Shakopee. The new sign will be more legible with increased readability due to having twice as many pixels as the current sign. The project will be funded from Federal Coronavirus Fiscal Recovery Funds. Council approves updated joint prosecution agreement with Scott County

The City Council approved an updated joint prosecution agreement with Scott County, which was updated to hold individual cities responsible for when revenues do not cover the cost of expenses for prosecution of city cases. The budget impact is expected to be $26,500 for 2022 and $53,000 for 2023. The original agreement has been in place since the early 2000s. City Council accepts traffic safety grant

The City Council accepted a $1,200 AAA Traffic Safety Grant for the Shakopee Police Department. The grant award will assist in funding the Police Department’s mock car crash and other traffic safety initiatives. More information: Jeff Tate, Police Chief, 952-233-9421.
